Frequently asked questions
How do I add a widget?
Open GIF Widget, choose an animation and tap Add to home screen. Or touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets, find GIF Widget and drag it to your home screen, then pick your animation.
Which files can I use?
GIF files and videos. Videos play silently: you choose a short clip from them. The free version takes files up to 8 MB and clips up to 3 seconds; Pro takes files up to 40 MB and clips up to 6 seconds.
My widget is grey or not moving.
If you used Force stop in Android settings, Android pauses the app’s widgets until you open the app again. If a widget stays empty after a restart, open Settings › Apps › GIF Widget › Battery and set it to Unrestricted. Some phone makers have extra battery settings: dontkillmyapp.com has tips for each brand.
My widget is empty or slow.
Every frame of an animated widget is held in your home screen’s memory. Try Low or Medium quality, a shorter clip, or fewer animated widgets.
I bought Pro. How do I get it on a new phone?
Pro is linked to the Google account you bought it with. Install GIF Widget with the same Google account and open the app: it checks Google Play and unlocks Pro again. You do not need to buy it twice.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by Google Play, so refunds follow Google Play’s refund policy. You can request one from your Google Play order history. If Pro does not work for you, email us as well and we will help.
How do I delete my data?
Everything GIF Widget saves stays on your phone. Removing a widget deletes its frames, and uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored. We hold no account or files of yours. The anonymous usage statistics the app sends to Google Firebase are deleted automatically after 2 months.
